When I started in wedding photography, I thought better photos came from better poses.

So I did what most photographers do—I searched for the “best” poses online and tried to copy them. I built lists, saved inspiration, and showed up to weddings thinking I finally had what I needed.

But when it came time to actually direct real people… everything fell apart.

The images looked stiff. Forced. Awkward.
And no matter how good the pose was supposed to be, I couldn’t get my couples to look like that.

Worse, it started to kill my confidence.

Because every wedding felt like a gamble. Maybe I’d get a naturally photogenic couple… maybe I wouldn’t. And if I didn’t? I knew I’d struggle to deliver the kind of images I actually wanted to be known for.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve built a system for directing and posing that has nothing to do with memorizing poses—and everything to do with creating natural, authentic moments that look like they belong in a magazine.
